FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Parkway Electric to Host Seminar to Illuminate Best Practices for Construction Professionals Grand Rapids, MI October 30, 2008 Concerns regarding the economy and foreign energy dependence are leading Americans to call for change this election year. With the 2008 presidential election just days away, candidates on both sides of the ticket agree that we must become vigilantly more responsible, creative and conservative to find solutions to reduce the monetary and environmental cost of energy. Both the Democratic and Republican nominees are looking to innovative, American companies for answers. In hopes of empowering the construction community to reshape America’s infrastructures and answer that call through sustainable design, Parkway Electric of Holland, MI will host the last in a series of 5 educational seminars. The event is scheduled to take place at Parkway Electric’s new, Grand Rapids building at 3755 36th St. SE. Technical Sales Specialist for Leviton’s Lighting Management Division, Keith J. Mitchell will take the podium beginning at 11:30 a.m. Daylight harvesting is relatively simple. Digital photo sensors are installed to detect the amount of natural sunlight and electric lighting will switch on automatically to compensate for any lack thereof and maintain a balance. The anticipated result is reduced energy usage and substantial cost reduction for both lighting and cooling in the summer months. “Engineers, Builders and project owners are demanding more user-friendly and eco-conscious lighting control systems, and rightfully so.” said Parkway Electric Sales & Marketing Manager, Gary Zandstra. “Utilizing natural light can cut cost to the consumer by nearly 83% and has the least amount of payback time of any newly installed energy efficiency solution. That’s why we’ve asked Mr. Keith Mitchell to help us educate local construction professionals about the implementation of these new, green technologies.” Keith Mitchell specializes in lighting control products for commercial construction. He has 23 years of experience in the electrical industry and has been a member of the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America since 1996. In 1999, Keith received his Lighting Certification from the National Council on Qualifications for the Lighting Professions and is a certified speaker on daylight control strategies for the American Institute of Architects. Before accepting questions from attendees, Mr. Mitchell will address these frequently asked questions: · What types of viable daylight harvesting solutions are available? · What are some obstacles encountered when utilizing daylight harvesting? · What potential payback is there for implementing daylight harvesting? · What hardware and software components are needed to put daylight harvesting in effect? · What advice would you give to someone whom would like to purse a more sustainable building & maintenance operation? · How have you implemented daylight harvesting to fit an industrial setting? · How does one research and find the best daylight harvesting solution for their specific needs? Parkway Electric is a 110-person team of electricians, technicians, engineers, estimators, project managers and designers.
