Parkway Electric Announces Matt Baker as New LEED Accredited Professional Grand Rapids, MI Dec. 2, 2008 The need for Michigan’s construction-based companies to remain competitive in a global labor market has motivated one Grand Rapids Company to invest in green technologies and continuing education for employees. Parkway Electric of Grand Rapids has announced Project Manager and Estimator, Matt Baker, as their new LEED Accredited Professional. According to Parkway Electric, this is just one of their many proactive efforts to meet the demand for smarter electricity infrastructures. As a new administration prepares to take office, there is more focus on sustainable energy and good environmental stewardship than ever. “With the governmental and societal push for cleaner, more sustainable energy, the roles of LEED APs are becoming increasingly crucial to the manufacturing and construction industries,” said Baker. “Not only for new buildings and business expansion, but to help owners of existing buildings retro-fit structures to become more energy and cost efficient.” A LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP) is a person that is certified by the Green Building Certification Institute and has demonstrated extensive expertise in green building design principals and construction. Since the launching of the certification program in 2001, nearly 60,000 individuals have successfully completed the rigorous program in order to obtain the credential. Sales & Marketing Manager for Parkway, Gary Zandstra added to Baker’s comments by stating, “It’s our goal to spearhead the green movement in Michigan with the hard work of our well certified staff and through the educational opportunities we provide to the construction community.” Specializing in power, communications and controls, Parkway Electric offers services ranging from building and design to service and maintenance.
